Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada's Used Nuclear Fuel Project
Failure to address risks

The NWMO project description fails to address the risks of transporting nuclear waste far from where the spent fuel is generated. There are outstanding questions about the safety and testing of the proposed transportation containers. The project did not consult with communities along the transportation route who will be most negatively impacted by a nuclear accident.
The project does not apply the proximity principle, failing to consider the option of building stronger on-site storage for waste, close to where the waste is generated, but further back from large bodies of water, where the waste can be monitored. In the project summary there is no plan for monitoring the waste indefinitely and retrieval if needed.
The project, as described, presents a perpetual risk to resources in NW Ontario- the water, the land- invaluable resources for all of Canada and for future generations to come, including my 14 grandchildren! The above concerns deserve to be answered when considering the viability of the project.
