Let’s be clear! This project is not a handout that we should be grateful to this council for! On the contrary this process started 15 years ago with a council that decided to take the the lead in being the first community to get involved in the process and 3 councils since then that allowed the process to continue! Also let’s not forget our community members who took the time to educate themselves! We debated amongst our selves during afternoon walks or visits to the coffee shop or at the many clc events where questions could be asked and answered. The past 3 1/2 years the information was extremely limited because of council intervention! Our clc was taken away from us our committees were terminated where people could enjoy conversation and learn together! A toxic environment inside the town resulted in firings arguing and the need for lawyers which destroyed community trust. With all this mayhem taking place people still stepped up to the plate and continued to engage in the process and delivered a solid yes during the willingness process! However we need the build back confidence and trust within our community and the nwmo and council! I think that will only happen after the 2026 election because of the lack of trust in leadership at this moment in time.
