Although I have few concerns in regards to the safety of the project I am concerned with NWMO's mitigation plan. The NWMO and Ignace were quite public regarding the benefits agreement that was negotiated. Based on what was offered to South Bruce and what we have seen each member of WLON receive(as the financial details were not made public we can only imagine what the total package is), Ignace certainly did a poor job negotiating. That aside, as the service hub of the area is Dryden, I would expect that there would be some type of impact mitigation agreement required by IAAC to offset the negative impacts they will no doubt realize. To date there has been no announcement of any such agreement. One would surely have expected that to have happened before NWMO submitted for approval of meeting these requirements? Dryden has already been impacted; the payments to WLON members have resulted in increases of Police calls for service, Medical/ER visits related to drug and alcohol emergencies and and increased community social services. I understand that Dryden did not apply to be the host but it is also not a secret that the entire area from Ignace to Vermillion Bay depends on many services only available in Dryden, services that are already stretched, many of which are solely funded by the taxpayers of Dryden. I believe the rapid population growth that is projected to take place in the area as the project begins will be almost unmanageable without financial support to Dryden. Shouldn't a mitigation agreement have beeen in place before their submission was made?
