To whom it may concern,

The movement of nuclear waste to Northwestern Ontario needs to be considered in the overall risk of burying nuclear waste.  Nuclear waste, currently in place in one type of container, will be transferred to transport containers.  These will be loaded on trucks or train cars, travel through numerous communities without nuclear energy experts, who will be needed in the event of a spill.  Then at the final destination, the nuclear waste will be transferred again to another type of storage container, for movement underground. Each time the waste is transferred to a differnt type of container, there are more risks.

In White River, we could be impacted by a nuclear waste spill on a local two lane highway, or a local railway.  We are surrounded by water and the roads and rails in Northern Ontario mostly empty into southern waterways, meaning the Great Lakes.  If there is a spill or accident on a local site, we only have volunteer fire departments.  We think a lot more planning attention needs to be paid to preventing pollution of land and water from transportation of nuclear waste in Northern Ontario.
