3 trucks of nuclear waste every day for 50+ years presents an unacceptable dangerous and polluting risk.

I have been following this project since it was first proposed and have always thought that shipping nuclear waste to NW Ontario so far away from the people who used and have benefited from the nuclear energy originally was an absolutely ridiculous idea. Over time my opinion has changed as more information became available and I am now even more opposed. I now believe the nuclear dump is dangerous, causes more environmental harm than we can afford and needs to be stopped.

Bruce, Darlington and Pickering nuclear plants originally could not feed power to NW Ontario until the completion of the East-West tie line connecting Wawa to Thunder Bay in March 2022.  Until then Ontario nuclear plants could only supply power to Southern Ontario, so my opinion was the nuclear waste should be permanently stored closer to the plants solely because of the dangers of an incident.
Why risk a leak or contamination upon the land and people that did not use the power in the first place?
When I learned the scale of the project, that 3-4 trucks a day, 9 months a year would be coming through our neighbourhoods for FIFTY YEARS or more I knew that this project must be stopped.  9 months is approximately 274 days a year so 3 trucks a year for 50 years works out to 41,000 truck loads!
Nuclear power has been hailed as green by proponents but is it really?  What is the carbon footprint of trucking the waste across some of the most dangerous roads in Canada 1,700 kilometers from the Ontario plants.  It is not a matter of if there is a crash or collision on these roads, it will be a given
If built, this nuclear dump near Ignace will be the only one in North America.  Waste will be accepted from other jurisdictions and transported from all over!
Another amazing thing about the chosen site is how the water flows from the area north and away from Southern Ontario.  It can’t be a coincidence that contaminated water will flow through so many first nation and northern communities to the arctic ocean far away from the Great Lakes and Southern Ontario.
This project is unacceptable and must be stopped.  FULL STOP.
