Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada's Used Nuclear Fuel Project
Potential risks and benefits of alternative storage methods

My initial comment questions the wisdom of long term storage of nuclear waste. It seems unwise to forego access to nuclear waste due to long term and inaccessible burial. New technologies might be developed which could utilize and/or neutralize nuclear waste. Storing waste adjacent to reactors could make it readily available should the opportunity for utilization and/or neutralization arise.
My second comment concerns shipment of waste over two lane highways through northern Ontario. Numerous accidents occur on a regular basis. Claims of indestructible containment during transport seem dubious.
My third comment questions the science of storage near rivers and lakes. We don't know what we don't know. Contamination of watercourses might occur despite current modelling.
I conclude that maintaining storage adjacent to reactors with appropriate upgrades is the wisest course of action at this time.
