Dear Panel:

I am writing to express my concern that there will not be an environmental assessment of the proposed nuclear waste storage site.

The environmental assessment must include the following points:

  • Nuclear waste transport routes and risks are vital to include within the project's scope if we're to have a full understanding of cumulative effects, impacts on sustainability and future generations
  • Indigenous rights and consent as recognized by the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and required under Canadian law must be respected
  • Environmental justice must ground how we move ahead, to uphold the rights of all impacted communities along the transportation routes to be informed and have a say
Unless these points are the basis of a well designed and executed environmental assessment which must precede this project, it cannot go ahead.
  • Unless these points are considered within a well designed and executed environmental assessment, this project cannot procede
