Ortona Firing Range Recapitalization - Valcartier Military Base

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project. The Ortona firing range was closed because parts of the steel bullet traps are exposed due to erosion. The exposed metal surfaces pose a ricochet hazard and, as a result, are dangerous for users. The work consists of removing the steel bullet traps, building new ones out of wood, partially decontaminating and recontouring the stop butt, and building a new marker's gallery at a lower elevation so that bullets stop in the bullet traps during close fires.

Latest update

August 18, 2023— The Department of National Defence issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
