Partial replacement and repair of the Kuujjuaq Airport perimeter fence
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The Kuujjuaq airport perimeter fence was installed 37 years ago in 1986, and is now damaged in some areas mainly due to normal wear and tear due to the harsh winters in this area. Several segments of the perimeter fence are in poor condition (raised or sagged) to the point where it no longer performs their function.The project consists of repairing, replacing and relocating certain segments of the fence that are lifted, damaged, missing or sagging.
The existing openings increase the risks to the safety of airport operations, in particular the possibility of intrusions (animals or humans) occurring during aircraft maneuvers.
This fence is made of three main types of materials:
- a 2.1 m high chain link section near the terminal building;
- a 1.8 m high wooden section near the instrument landing system;
- a square mesh section 1.8 m high over approximately 85% of the perimeter.
