Carmanah Point Light Station - Construction and Replacement of Aerial Highline Tower Structures and Winch Upgrades

Carmanah Point is one of three staffed Light house stations operated by the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) in the West Coast Trail unit of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. The current aerial highline and winch system at Carmanah is in need of repair. The objective of this work is to excavate and build new concrete foundations, rebuild the tower, and convert the winch system to operate on electricity. This will bring the system back to a safe operating standard, reduce reliance on helicopters to bring goods to site, and reduce the diesel fuel demand to power the station. Ultimately reducing the greenhouse gas footprint for operating the station.
