Deconstruction of Various Buildings - 12 Wing Shearwater

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to deconstruct 6 surplus buildings at 12 Wing Shearwater. The project scope will include the deconstruction/demolition of buildings SH HGRB, SH HGRC, SH HGRE, SH HGRF, SH10 and SH83. The associated project activities include: hazardous materials abatement, tearing down exterior/interior walls, floors, roofs, concrete slabs and asphalt; capping remaining underground utility and service lines; backfill and grade any remaining open excavations/trenches; removal and off-site disposal of building materials/debris; and restore the ground surface (e.g., grass, asphalt). The proposed building deconstruction is scheduled to begin in Fiscal Year 2022-2023.

October 2, 2022 – The public comment period on the project is closed. The Department of National Defence is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
