Residential Housing Units and Ancillary Structures Demolition - Newport Corner

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project which consists of the demolition of the residential housing units (RHUs) and associated ancillary structures located at Newport Corner, Nova Scotia. This includes the complete removal, transportation, storage, and disposal of all hazardous materials. The project includes the demolition of six single family RHUs; two rowhouse RHUs; four single-car garages and one double-car garage; and six sheds. Ancillary structures will also be removed, including clothesline poles, concrete supports, and associated timber platform/decking; exterior patios/decking/timber fences/lattices; fence concrete supports; and waste bins/planter boxes/posts. Removal of at least five 900-litre above ground storage tanks and all associated piping and equipment will also be completed.

June 12 2022 - The Department of National Defence intends to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, the Department of National Defence is inviting public comments until July 1, 2022 respecting that determination.
