SaskPower Line Trenching at Operations Compound

SaskPower is proposing to install approximately 20 metres (m) of underground secondary cable adjacent to a developed lot behind the Operations Compound (NW10-57-01 W3M), within Prince Albert National Park (the Project). The Project is required top rovide underground power service for a new weather station. Equipment that is expected to be used for completion of the Project will include a back-hoe with a chain-trenching attachment, or a similar piece of equipment. Access to the Project will make use of a park road,a developed lot, and the SaskPower right-of-way. Surface disturbance is expected to be minimized to the underground cable installation location. The disturbance will be limited to an approximately 23 centimetre (cm) wide trench resulting from the underground cable installation. The resulting trench will be immediately backfilled and compacted once the underground cable has been installed. At the beginning and end of the installed cable (the weather station site and where the underground cable requires splicing to an existing pad-mount transformer), small splice pits will be required. The back-hoe will excavate two approximately 1 m deep, 0.5 to 1 m wide, and 1 to 2 m long pits in order to connect to the pad-mount transformer and the weather station. At these locations, topsoil stripping will be employed prior to excavation of parent material to minimize admixing of soil horizons. Upon completion of splicing the underground cable, the resulting pits will be backfilled with native material and compacted.
