Solid Waste Transfer Station - Stanley Mission

The proposed Project is comprised of constructing a new Solid Waste Transfer Station (SWTS) near the existing landfill at Stanley Mission. This Project will also include: collection of municipal solid waste (MSW) at all houses at SM, a new waste collection truck, a heated garage for storage of the collection truck and to "de-pollute" vehicles for crushing and off-recycling, and decommissioning of the existing landfill site. An existing access road will allow the public and collection and bin haul trucks to enter the site. The final disposal site for material collected at the SWTS would be the regional landfill owned and operated by Lac La Ronge Regional Waste Management Corporation (LLRRWMC) near La Ronge, SK. The Project is expected to operate for 25 years and is located off-reserve within the La Ronge Provincial Park.

The SWTS site will occupy approximately one hectare and will be developed such that drainage is away from the transfer area and erosion is prevented. The existing tree cover will be maintained and protected whenever possible to help minimize the degree of litter that blows off site and help to improve the overall aesthetics of the area. A portion of the existing land fill will be occupied by the proposed SWTS and will be decommissioned prior to construction of the SWTS.

The following permits and authorizations have been obtained from the Provincial authorities: permit to operate from Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment (MOE),
lease agreement (MOE), forest product permit (MOE),  Crown Land work authorization (MOE), Schedule A –  Development Permit Conditions (MOE), Aquatic Habitat Protection Permit - (Saskatchewan Water Security Agency).
