Ontario Line Project

Dear Minister Wilkinson,

As a resident of Riverside, who lives ~100m from the existing rail corridor, I would like to voice my concerns with the current proposal and support for a review and federal impact assessment. There was a previous plan for a downtown relief line which was one with community consultation and made a lot of sense for moving around the city. This line, with no connection to Union station, as well as the above-ground portions, were poorly thought out and rushed into execution phases without proper thought.

We and a number of our neighbours are already considering moving from a neighbourhood and street that we love because of this plan. We will lose parks, and the increased noise and vibration will have a significant impact on our daily quality of life. I understand and strongly support the need for transit, but this is not the right way to do it!

As a resident of Leslieville,  I would like to add my voice of support to designate the Ontario Line so that it is seriously reviewed and at least subject to a federal impact assessment. In the heart of a big metropolitan area, environmental concerns, health issues and quality of life should dictate any investment impacting decades (if not centuries is the case of a subway) to come. The current  rail corridor is already a busy one and any modification should go in the direction of a reduction of impact (visibility, landscape, sound, vibration, pollution and safety), certainly not the opposite.

We need your help. This project needs a serious review and should be put underground in order to protect our communities.

Thank you,

Dan Donovan
