Aubrey Island Navigational Aid Sight Line Restoration (Coast Guard)

Coast Guard has operated a navigation Aid on the East side of Aubrey Island for over 100 years. This navigation aid provides access to islands near Gananoque from the main St. Lawrence River navigation channel and is used by recreational and commercial vessels. Coast Guard has identified concerns with visibility of the navigation aid for larger commercial vessels navigating this area during the summer. The project initially entails removing or trimming 15-20 mature trees along the shoreline that are blocking sight lines. Work will be conducted during the fall/winter to reduce impacts on nesting birds and to reduce disturbance to park visitors. The project will utilize small equipment (chainsaws, chippers) and trimming with a licensed arborist when applicable.
