Rustic Cabins at Jim Charles Point

Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site (KNPNHS) proposes to construct two rustic cabins at Jim Charles Point, within the boundaries of the park's Group campsite. The two cabins will compliment three existing rustic cabins at the site and serve to diversify the accommodations available to park visitors.

Access to the sites will be via an existing road. Toilet and shower facilities will be available at the new Group washroom building. The new rustic cabins will be wood frame in construction, 5.0m x 6.5m in dimensions with a front porch and wood burning stove. The foundations for the individual cabins will consist of concrete blocks resting on paving stones, with no excavation of soils required. Major sections of the individual cabins will be constructed in the park's carpentry workshop and transported to the site by truck and trailer, for on site assembly. Clearing of ground vegetation and small trees (<15cm dbh) will be required at the two cabin locations, which will be conducted outside the migratory bird breeding location. It is planned that site preparation will commence August 15, with completion of the project by December 31, 2020. A fire box for campfires and picnic table will also be established at each of the new rustic cabin locations. This project will be assessed with a basic impact assessment.
