Burying overhead power lines in township 1, range 1, west of the 3rd meridian in Grasslands National Park

Grasslands National Park is partnering with SaskPower to remove 10 km of overhead service line in the West Block of the park, replacing it with a partially buried service line. The existing overhead line crosses through prairie, while the replacement line will follow the existing public access road. The public access road intersects a black-tailed prairie dog colony, and work will occur on lands protected by the Emergency Order for the Protection of the Greater Sage-Grouse (2013). The proposed project will work towards conservation goals for the greater sage-grouse by removing power poles in critical habitat. Tall vertical structures in critical habitat are identified by the Recovery Strategy for this species as a chronic disturbance that threatens their recovery and survival. This project will be assessed with a basic impact assessment.
