The BNA Three Phase Transmission Project

The BNA Three Phase Transmission Project involves the installation of a three phase transmission line from the BNA sawmill into the Phase I Housing Area of the community.  The transmission line will be installed so that it runs right through the areas which plan to be developed such as the community core area and the Phase II and III Housing Areas. There is approximately 4 km of transmission line which will be installed with this project.  BNA is in a state of readiness for this project since the right of way for the main road was cleared last year, allowing space for the transmission line.

BNA is a displaced First Nation. However, in 2019 the First Nation began the construction of 2 duplexes in its Phase 1 Housing Area for year-round living for community members. These units were completed by December 2019, and are now all occupied.  BNA is also building three new single family dwellings this year which will be completed by March 2021. The housing area is currently serviced by a low capacity hydro line from Rocky Bay FN which is part of the former park infrastructure inherited by BNA.  Ensuring safe reliable power for BNA members that are residing in BNA year-round and allowing for community development is critical to BNA.

The project also involves the disconnection and capping of the current low capacity line from Rocky Bay and cooridinating with Bell to get fibre capabilities installed on the three phase transmission lines poles at the same time it is installed.
