New Prosperity Gold-Copper Mine Project
Federal Funding Allocated to Support Aboriginal Participation in Environmental Assessment

OTTAWA, October 3, 2013 – The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency has allocated a total of $44,500 to three Aboriginal applicants to support their participation in consultation activities related to the environmental assessment of the proposed New Prosperity Gold-Copper Mine project located in British Columbia.

This Aboriginal funding is allocated through the Participant Funding Program administered by the Agency and is intended to support the participation of Aboriginal groups in the review and comment on the Joint Review Panel Report.

A funding review committee, independent of the panel review process, was established to assess the requests for funding.

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency administers the federal environmental assessment process, which identifies the environmental effects of proposed projects and measures to address those effects, in support of sustainable development.
