Water Main Replacement at the NRC - Montreal Road South Campus
December 5, 2025 – The National Research Council (NRC) must determine whether the proposed water main replacement, located at the NRC Montreal Road South Campus, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) is proposing the replacement of water main infrastructure serving the Montreal Road South Campus.
The scope of the project includes water mains replaced by either open-cut excavation, Cure-In Place-Pipe (CIPP), or a hybrid approach using both methods.
The proposed project will take place on National Research Council Canada (NRC), on federal land. The project will not change the landscape of the site. The Federal Land Use, Design and Transaction Approval (FLUDTA) is not required.
The project consists of linear excavation of 2100 linear meter. The project includes tree removal. Trees are anticipated to be removed for this project and will be compensated as part of the project. The project work would take approximately five months from start to completion (May 2026 to November 2026).
To help inform this determination, the NRC is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public [and may be posted online]. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.
