The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a new undertaking associated with the existing and ongoing Japanese Garden Revitalization Project. To ensure that the Japanese Garden Teahouse building(s) can be approved for public use, access to the Teahouse must meet the British Columbia Fire Code 2018. This Project aims to upgrade to an existing access road (south of Walled Garden), such that the road meets the British Columbia Fire Code 2018 fire truck vehicle access requirements. This Project consists of three components:

  • Widening the entrance to the existing gravel access road and extending the length of the gravel access road to the Japanese Garden Teahouse;
  • Add in a gravel-fill fire truck turnaround at the northeastern extent of the access road (add gravel fill to raise and level ground for the turnaround); and
  • Install a culvert extension underneath the gravel turnaround. The culvert would extend an existing outfall location for Walled Garden perimeter drain by approximately 2 meters.
