February 20, 2023 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to recap the roof at building SHHGR342, 12 Wing Shearwater. During a wind event, the upper membrane layers of the roof delaminated from the insulation and are loose and failing. Project activities will include removal of concrete paver stones on existing roof system; removal and disposal of 2-ply modified bitumen roofing and overlayment boards; removal and replacement of wet insulation; and new 75-millimetre insulation, cover board, and 2-ply modified bitumen roof over the area of work. The lighting protection system will also be removed, reinstated, and re-certified.
