Notice of Determination

October 05, 2022 – Indigenous Services Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada have determined that the proposed Supply Island Lighthouse Demolition and Remediation Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • This project has been assessed based on the requirements under the Impact Assessment Act, Species at Risk Act, and Fisheries Act;
  • There was no comments received from the public; and
  • Mitigation measures will be implemented during construction to ensure the protection of the environment.

Mitigation measures will be implemented to address potential adverse effects on:

  • Surface Water Quality;
  • Wildlife and Habitat, including Species at Risk, Migratory Birds, and Fish and Aquatic Wildlife;
    • Note that Environment and Climate Change Canada will issue a Species at Risk Act permit for Little Brown Myotis, which will detail mitigation and avoidance measures that minimize impacts to the species and their habitat.
  • Air Quality; and
  • Human Health

Based on the consideration of these measures, Indigenous Services Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada are satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
