Thunderchild First Nation - Solid Waste Transfer Station- Public Comments Invited

September 28, 2022 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Thunderchild First Nation - Solid Waste Transfer Station, located on Thunderchild IR115B & IR115C, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

- Construction of a solid waste transfer station site including earthen fill loading ramp, lock block retaining walls, concrete pads, fencing and vehicle stops, fenced areas for recyclable and hazardous waste sorting;
- Construction of an attendant building / garage to store the collection truck or skidsteer;
- Construction of remote bin sites throughout the community to house 6yd waste bins;
- Upgrades to the existing access road;
- Provision of roads for ingress and egress to the location of all work required;
- Clean up of site; and
- Repair of defects for one year after completion of the work.

Solid waste transfer station site is approximately 2.0 ha and will serve as a waste disposal site for both the Thunderchild 115B and 115C communities.  Expected life span of the project is 20+ years. 

Transfer station is in NW14-52-20-W3M;
Access road is also in SW14-52-20-W3M and NW11-52-20-W3M
