September 27, 2022 - Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Cumberland House Cree Nation On-reserve Timber Harvesting and Wildfire Fuel Break is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on the following factors:
- by Band Council Resolution, Cumberland House Cree Nation requested that Indigenous Services Canada issue a Timber permit
- the harvesting will improve protection from wildfire for the community of Cumberland House Cree Nation
-the project will provide economic and skill training benefits to the Cumberland House Cree Nation band members
-no public comments were received concerning the project
-mitigation measures outlined in Harvesting Plan

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:
-operation will comply with the Saskatchewan Forest Operations Standards and the Saskatchewan Temporary Work Camp Standards
  -riparian setbacks
-fuel storage and machinery refueling practices
  -potential bird nesting sites

Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. If applicable, environmental effects that are within provincial jurisdiction would be addressed through provincial regulations. Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
