Restoration of a barn at 2664 Prince of Wales – Public Comments Invited

June 2nd, 2022 The National Capital Commission must determine whether the proposed Restoration of a barn at 2664 Prince of Wales located in Ottawa, Ontario is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects in compliance with sections 81-91 of the Impact Assessment Act and the National Capital Act.

To help inform this determination, the National Capital Commission is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. The Proposed Project

As part of a restoration project, the National Capital Commission (NCC) intends to restore a barn located at 2664 Prince of Wales Drive in Ottawa, Ontario. The project is needed to stabilize and preserve the barn.

The proposed project would take place on leased lands owned by the NCC.

The restoration work consists of strengthening structural beams, repairing the foundation and replacement of the top floor. Metal L brackets would be installed to strengthen existing structural beams. The foundation would be repointed using material similar to the existing material in the foundation. To complete the foundation repairs, the soil surrounding the foundation would also be excavated at a depth of two feet by two feet from the foundation wall. The flooring on the top floor consists of wood and would be replaced in a manner identical to the previous flooring.

The construction area will be accessed with light duty machines and equipment. For safety reasons, all work areas will be fenced. The construction is set to begin fall 2022 and complete by winter 2022. Construction work will abide by all municipal by-laws including noise.

Any contaminated soil will be disposed of following federal and provincial requirements.
