Notice determination

March 22, 2022– Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Misipawistik Cree Nation - Water Treatment Plant Upgrade and Expansion Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

• impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
• Indigenous knowledge;
• community knowledge;
• comments received from the public;
• mitigation measures.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

• Spill prevention and tank installation
• Petroleum and chemical storage
• Soil contamination
• Sedimentation and erosion control
• Water quality
• Waste management

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Environmental effects that are within provincial jurisdiction would be addressed through provincial regulations.
