Notice of Determination for 1201 Angus Street - Cowessess First Nation - Building Development for Parking

March 21, 2022 - Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed 1201 Angus Street - Cowessess First Nation - Building Development for Parking is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

-Cowessess First Nation held a successful designation vote with their membership for this property
-Cowessess First Nation has requested by band council resolution that a s. 53 lease be issued for this property
-Cowessess First Nation members will benefit from revenue from the parking development to support the office building
-no comments were received during the public comment period.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address potential environmental effects related to:

-The site will be operated in compliance with municipal and national requirements/standards.
-there is a municipal services agreement in place for the property, and all connections for services are in place up to the property line.
-construction waste will be disposed of at a designated local facility.

Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. If applicable, environmental effects that are within provincial jurisdiction would be addressed through provincial regulations. Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
