The Proposed Project:

The Hamilton Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA) is proposing to move the Burlington Canal light tower (currently owned by Fisheries and Oceans Canada) off Federal lands onto lands owned by HOPA.   Work will see the completion of the following activities:

  • The tower will be secured by harnessing and then lifted from its current foundation;
  • The harnessed tower will be secured to a temporary conveyance (rails / rollers / crawler);
  • Once moved to its new location the tower will be fixed to the newly constructed foundation;
  • HOPA will remove or infill the current foundation on Federal lands (which are under the Administration of Public Services and Procurement Canada) and restore the surface to match the surrounding lands
