Notice of intent to make a determination

Tataskweyak Cree Nation New Co-op Store – Public Comments Invited

September 24, 2021– Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Tataskweyak Cree Nation New Co-op Store , located in Tataskweyak Cree Nation is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

TCN proposes to construct a 11,000 square foot Grocery Store with Fuel Tanks and Pump Island. The building will consist of a grocery store with a convenience store and an upstairs store manager living space apartment. The building will be supported on a helical pile foundation. The site will have parking and access will have a granular finish surface ad geometry to accommodate fuel and produce delivery. The fuel tanks will consist of two tanks, one (1) for regular gasoline and one (1) with a dual compartment to allow the business to offer additional fuel types such as diesel and premium gasoline.

 New infrastructure is to include: piped water, piling, sewer stub outs for future connect. In the meantime, septic and water tanks will be buried on site for water and sewer services. New service poles will be installed to provide power to the building. A fibre optic line will be trenched into the building from the nearest point of service to provide internet. Fuel line piping will be installed to supply the fuel pumps from the fuel tanks.

Activities will include construction access, crawl space excavation, piling, sewer and water tanks and piping, underground fuel line piping, underground fibre and electrical lines, new utility poles, superstructure, security fencing placement. The land is currently cleared and topsoil is to be removed and stock piled. The site will be finished with granular access roads and parking pads installed around the building. Fuel Tanks and Pumps are to be installed with required Government of Canada Petroleum Guidelines.
