Notice of Determination

2021-07-05 – Infrastructure Canada has determined that the proposed Wasauksing First Nation Peatland Wastewater System Design & Construction (the Project) is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Mitigation and monitoring measures taken into account for this determination included active and adaptive management measures that will be implemented for the protection of local environments. 

Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:

  • Control of dust and exhaust emmisions / pollutants
  • Spill management
  • Vegetation / tree protection and removal
  • General wildlife protection
  • Protection of species at risk
  • Protection of migratory birds
  • Fish and fish habitat protecton (during blasting)
  • Protection of water quality
  • Protection of surface water flows
  • Ground water quality and quanatity mesures
  • Noise and vibration control
  • Acheological finds considerations

Based on the consideration of these measures, Infrastructure Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Infrastructure Canada may carry out the Project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the Project to be carried out in whole or in part.
