Notice of Commencement of an Impact Assessment

Ottawa – May 31, 2021 – The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (the Agency) has commenced an impact assessment pursuant to the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) for the Suncor Base Mine Extension Project (the Project).

On January 28, 2021, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of the Environment and Climate Change referred the impact assessment of the Project to an independent review panel. In addition, the Agency has issued the Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines and required plans to the proponent to guide the development of the Impact Statement for the Project:

• Public Participation Plan
• Indigenous Engagement and Partnership Plan
• Cooperation Plan
• Plan for the Issuance of Permits
