Public Comment Period on Intent to Make a Determination

April 22, 2021 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to carry out airfield pavement repair/replacement activities at 12 Wing Shearwater. The proposed project is expected to consist of the removal existing asphalt and concrete pavement, placement of granular materials and installation of new asphalt pavement in select locations on Ramp 1 (totalling approximately 3,025 m2). Milling and replacement of existing asphalt pavement on the FATO (approximately 2,560 m2) is also proposed. Surplus soils are not anticipated. The work is expected to take place Summer/Fall 2021.
