Notice of determination for the Piapot Lagoon, Forcemain and Sewage Pumping Station

February 26, 2021 - Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Piapot Lagoon, Forcemain and Sewage Pumping Station is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

-the existing lagoon and SPS have reached the end of their lifespan, and the new lagoon and SPS will better serve the community of Piapot First Nation 
-the construction of the lagoon will provide employment opportunities for the members of Piapot First Nation
-review of design drawings and specifications
-letter of advice from Department of Fisheries and Oceans
-no comments were received from the public about the project
-mitigation measures are required for the project

Implementation of the following mitigation measures is required for the project:

-follow letter of advice from Department of Fisheries and Oceans
-refueling best practices to prevent spills will be followed on site
-site access will be limited to authorized workers with adequate training

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
