February 5, 2021 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Vanier Commercial Development Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Upon finalizing the review and site development plans, the timing of the 14.3 acre clearing and land preparation will now occur in one phase and will no longer include the entertainment centre.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • mitigation measures

Please note that no comments were received during the 30 day comment period.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

  • Surface and Groundwater;
  • The Land;
  • Flora and Fauna;
  • Air and Noise;
  • Socio-Economic, Culture and Heritage ;
  • Installation of fuel storage tanks

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Environmental effects that are within provincial jurisdiction would be addressed through provincial regulations.
