January 8, 2021 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte First Nation - Watermain Extension Phase III is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • There will be positive impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples, which will result in safe drinking water for the community, and;
  • Mitigation measures proposed for the project during construction activities have been prepared and review by Indigenous Services Canada.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

  • The land
    • Fueling of equipment will not occur on the project site as all machinery will be filled off site at an appropriate re-fuel location
    • A planned spill response operation will be used as a mitigation measure regarding potential spills on the project site.
  • Air and Noise
    • Noise will be controlled by limiting work during daytime hours, and ensuring that all equipment and materials are readily available at the site.

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
