Notice of determination

November 10, 2020 – Indigenous Services Canada and Canadian Heritage have determined that the proposed Abegweit Cemetery Project/Healing Garden is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

• impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
• Indigenous knowledge;
• community knowledge;
• mitigation measures.

Please note that no public comments were received for this project during the public comment period.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address potential environmental effects relating to:

• Surface and Groundwater
• Land
• Air and Noise
• Socioeconomic, Culture, and Heritage

Indigenous Services Canada and Canadian Heritage are satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Environmental effects that are within provincial jurisdiction would be addressed through provincial regulations.
