Notice of intent to make a determination

Mikisew Peace Point Power Plant Solar Addition – Public Comments Invited

November 4, 2020 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Mikisew Peace Point Power Plant Solar Addition located in 59.1275 -112.4423 is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

The construction of 55 kilowatt (kW) solar generation to be added to the existing diesel-fired power plant. The generation from the solar panels has the potential to generate 58,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) annually, to supplement the operation of the existing power plant engines. Potential project benefits include:

- reduction of diesel consumption,

- reduction of noise, emissions and smell produced by the plant

- increase efficiency of the plant

- achieve cost savings by reducing operating and fuel costs of the plant.

See attached site drawing.

Expected lifespan of the new solar infrastructure is approximately 20+ years.

- ATCO is also requesting a fire break of 25 m to ensure fire safe distance for critical infrastructure
