Montreal Lake East Lagoon- Public Comments Invited

October 13, 2020 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Montreal Lake East Lagoon, located in Montreal Lake IR 106 is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

Expansion of the existing East core sewage lagoon and decommissioning of the west core sewage lagoon. Existing 1.10ha primary lagoon cell being expanded with an additional 4.43ha primary lagoon cell. Existing 12,900 cu.m. primary lagoon cell being expanded with an additional 146,252 cu.m. lagoon storage cell. Approx. 5,750 lin.m. of new 150mm dia. DR17 sewage force main from SPS no.2 to the east lagoon. Approx. 500 lin.m. of new 200mm dia. PVC gravity sewer main from SPS no.1 to SPS no.2. The east lagoon expansion will consist of flagging of the existing forested area to indicate clearing extents, tree clearing within the extents marked by the Engineer, topsoil stripping, earthwork excavation/fill to construct the new lagoon cells, placement of 600mm thick compacted clay liner, topsoil replacement, seeding and erosion protection. New forcemain installation to convey sewage from the west core area to the east lagoon. Decommissioning of the existing west lagoon upon completion of the east lagoon expansion. Any construction waste generated from construction of the new lagoon, forcemain, sewage pumping stations will be transported to an off-site landfill by the Contractor.
