The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence is replacing the existing Underground Complex's electrical substation at 22 Wing North Bay. The substation is located on Department of National Defence property south of Tower Drive and is the primary electrical service for the Underground Complex.

The existing substation is required to be replaced as it suffered damage in 2019. The replacement system will involve disposal and replacement of existing transformers, grounding systems, switching, metering, overhead support structure, ground grid, conduits, concrete pads, and fencing. In addition, a new surficial switchgear generator will be installed.

Project areas and access-ways disturbed by construction activities will be restored through landscaping operations, fine grading, revegetation and blending with existing grades as required.
