June 29, 2020 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Wastewater System Upgrades located on Acadian First Nation property is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  •  community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  •  technically and economically feasible mitigation measures

Note that no comments were received during the public commenting period.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address potential environmental effects related to:

  • Surface and Groundwater
  • The Land
  • Flora and Fauna
  • Air and Noise
  • Socio-Economic, Culture and Heritage

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Environmental effects that are within provincial jurisdiction would be addressed through provincial regulations.

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
