Côté Gold Mine Project — Participant Funding Allocated

February 25, 2019 — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) allocated an additional $25,000 in federal funds to five Indigenous groups to assist their participation in reviewing and providing comments on proposed changes to the Côté Gold Mine Project, located in northeastern Ontario.

The funding was made available through the Agency's Participant Funding Program and assisted the participation of Indigenous groups in providing comments on the potential environmental effects of the project changes as well as the Agency's analysis of these changes.

Regulatory Funding

The Agency also allocated $70,000 in federal funds to five Indigenous groups to assist their participation in consultations by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) related to proposed amendments to Schedule 2 of the Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations (the Regulations) for the Côté Gold Mine Project

The funding was made available through the Agency's Participant Funding Program and will assist participation on ECCC's draft consultation plan and supporting documents linked to the proposed amendments of the Regulations.

The Proposed Project

IAMGOLD Corporation is proposing the construction, operation, decommissioning and abandonment of the Côté Gold Mine Project, which includes an open-pit gold mine, an on-site metal mill and structures for diverting water, located 20 kilometres southwest of the community of Gogama in northeastern Ontario. The Designated Project would have an ore input and ore production capacity of 36,000 tonnes per day, with a life of approximately 17 years.
