Dear Ms. Curran,

SUBJECT: Agency Review of Revised Environmental Impact Statement

On December 20, 2017, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) received the revised Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and EIS Summary for the Flemish Pass Exploration Drilling Project (the Project) from Statoil Canada Ltd. (the proponent). The Agency has reviewed the submission in light of its December 19, 2017 letter to you and confirms that revisions have been made.

This letter is to inform you that the Agency has commenced the technical review of the document and will begin a public comment period as early as January 4, 2018. Given the similarity between the EIS documents for this Project and Exxon Mobil's Eastern Newfoundland Offshore Exploration Drilling Project, the Agency intends to coordinate the technical review and comment periods for the two projects in order to maximize efficiencies for Indigenous groups, the public, technical reviewers, and proponents.

Please note that proceeding to a technical review and public comment period does not imply that the information provided is adequate to support the completion of the environmental assessment. The Agency will be issuing Information Requirements to you based on the results of the technical review conducted by federal experts, and on input received from the public and Indigenous groups during the comment period.

This letter may be posted on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry Internet Site: http://www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca.

If you have questions or wish to discuss further, please contact Shauna O'Brien at 902-426-9460 or via email at FlemishPass-PasseFlamande@ceaa-acee.gc.ca.

Sincerely,

Mike Atkinson
