Black Point Quarry Project – Additional Federal Funding Allocated to Support Participation in Environmental Assessment

November 17, 2014 — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) has allocated $10,500 to Frank Fogarty to assist his participation in the environmental assessment of the proposed Black Point Quarry Project, located in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia.

This funding was made available to the public and Aboriginal groups through the Participant Funding Program administered by the Agency. It will enable participation in upcoming steps of the environmental assessment, which include reviewing and providing comments on the Environmental Impact Statement summary, the draft Environmental Assessment Report, and on potential environmental assessment conditions.

The Proposed Project

Morien Resources Corp. proposes the construction, operation, decommissioning, and abandonment of a granite quarry at Black Point in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, and the construction and operation of a 200 metre-long marine terminal and load-out facility, adjacent to the quarry, in Chedabucto Bay. The quarry is expected to have a production capacity of up to 7.5 million tonnes of granite per year, over a mine life of approximately 50 years.
