Chinook Power Station Project — Public Comments Invited

October 19, 2016 — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency must decide whether a federal environmental assessment is required for the proposed Chinook Power Station Project, located near Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

To help inform this decision, the Agency is seeking comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment, as described in the summary of the project description. All comments received will be considered public.

The Proposed Project

Saskatchewan Power Corporation (SaskPower) is proposing to construct and operate a 350-megawatt combined cycle natural gas power station located approximately 11 kilometres northwest of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. As proposed, the Chinook Power Station Project would have an operating lifespan of at least 30 years and include a power generation facility, a switchyard, and a new underground water pipeline.
