DECISION

Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Transportation Agency (the Agency) have taken the following course of action on March 9, 2016, relating to the comprehensive study of the Arnaud Mining Project. The authorities may exercise any power or perform any duty or function with respect to the project because, after taking into consideration the comprehensive study report and taking into account the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures and the follow-up program, the authorities are of the opinion that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project for the following environmental components:

  • Human health;
  • Water resources;
  • Fish and fish habitat;
  • Terrestrial wildlife and its habitat;
  • Birds and bird habitat and;
  • Current use of land and resources for traditional purposes.

A follow-up program to verify the accuracy of the environmental assessment and/or determine the effectiveness of any measures taken to mitigate the adverse environmental effects is required for this project.

The implementation of mitigation measures and a follow-up program by the Agency are contingent upon the issuance of an authorization pursuant to the Canada Transportation Act, S.C., 1996, c. 10, as amended.
